Leeds - Saturday 3rd April!

Commendation for Station of the Year!

The awards took place on Saturday 3rd April 2004 in Leeds.  It’s the second year that the awards have run previously they were the Hospital Broadcasting Awards. The awards took place between 2nd - 4th April 2004 at the Queens Hotel Leeds and were sponsored  by  EMAP, Brakes Catering, IRN, PPL and CBBC.

Rookwood Sound broadcast the awards live on the night, we were entered into the Station of the Year, Special Event and Presenter of the year categories!

STATION OF THE YEAR – A 15 minute stand alone documentary on the work of the station over the last 12 months.  The entry includes excerpts of programmes and activities undertaken by the station.

SPECIAL EVENT – A 15 minute programme, which this year was our Remembrance Service live from the chapel at Rookwood Hospital.  This was the last official meeting of the D Day veterans who have met at the chapel on Remembrance Day for the last 59 years.

PRESENTER OF THE YEAR – Two entries this year was put into the competition.  This was a 5-minute compilation of programme or excerpts of programmes from the last 12 months.  The entrants this year were Steve Allen and Charlie Brown.

For the third year in succession Rookwood Sound Hospital Radio has received a commendation in the awards
 
Rookwood Sound was within the top 10 radio stations across the UK according to the judging panel. Steve Allen Chief Executive of Rookwood Sound said "Again we have proved that Rookwood Sound provides a quality radio service to the patients of Rookwood & Llandough Hospitals who are part of the Cardiff & Vale NHS Trust. Each year we improve on our past performance we are very pleased with this result however we cannot sit back we are already preparing for the 2005 awards to be held in Belfast."
 
At the conference Steve Allen Chief Executive of Rookwood Sound  was presented with his long service award for 15 years service to hospital broadcasting.  Other certificates have also been collected on behalf of members of the station and will be presented shortly at the next general meeting.
